Al's 1964 Barracuda
This page is dedicated to my brother-in-law Al's Barracuda. He bought it a while ago on ebay. It is a factory V8 four speed car.The guy who sold it wasn't one of the good guys and when Al received the car he found that there was a good bit of serious damage to the body that the guy had not been up front about. The before photos will show some of the damage. The body was supposed to be in good shape. However, the car is quite solid for its age and was just about all there, so Al decided to keep the car and bring it back from the dead to a nice driver (not necessarily a show car).
They call the car Yogi. Look at this face, can you see a resemblance? This is one of the first pictures after receiving the car. Shortly, I will be posting more pics and information on the car on this page.

Here are more pictures of the little Cuda as it was received. Some of these pics show the body damage that the seller on ebay had not been honest about in the auction. Some Hon-Yock had pushed the car with something with out the rear bumper on the car. You can see the result. Probably the same Hon-Yock had beaten the crap out of both rear wheel openings trying to fit bigger tires and left big damage there. There was also a big dent in the main body line just under the rear glass on the right side and above the right rear tire opening, which had been filled with bondo (somewhat). (Same Hon-Yock, maybe?) There is a small rust hole in the left rear floor pan at the rear seat that the seller had mentioned, but he had neglected to mention that the left rear frame rail was rusted away in that area. (Actually, I believe he had said that the under structure of the car was in good shape.) The right front fender was rusted away and the damage hidden with bondo (somewhat). Anyway, this is what Al is starting out with.

Here are some pics of the car with repairs under way. Al started the project properly with some upgrades for safety. He has done away with the original single brake line master cylinder and installed a later style dual line master cylinder system. He has also upgraded to disc brakes up front with a kit from Summit Automotive. I understand that there is some kind of interference between the engine oil pan and the steering linkages that will have to be worked out. The engine isn't the original 273. It is a later model 318 with a two barrel carb. Maybe an oil pan difference? Al said that while doing the disc brake conversion, it was discovered that the car had six cylinder spindles on it and V8 spindles had to be located for it. The serial number clearly denotes a V8 car. Strange to say the least. He is currently collecting parts for repairs. He has purchaced an Edlebrock manifold and four barrel carb for it and I believe he is going to convert the ignition to a later model Chrysler electronic system.
